Dr. Ivano Costa is the founder and clinical director of Advanced Health Recovery which opened in the spring of 2003. He is a Registered Chiropractic Rehabilitation Specialist, Registered Acupuncturist and has taken advanced courses in Orthotic Therapy. Dr. Costa is an Advanced Practice Provider for Ontario’s Rapid Access Clinic for Low Back Pain servicing Central LIHN through Markham-Stouffville Hospital. Dr. Costa graduated from York University in 1994 with an Honors Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education. After teaching for 2 years in Markham, he followed his interests in health promotion and manual therapy and completed his Doctor of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2001.
Dr. Costa is a specialist in chiropractic rehabilitation and has extensive clinical experience in treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions related to postural and repetitive strain, work-related injuries, motor vehicle accidents, athletic injury management and personal injury rehabilitation. From concussions, strains and sprains to post-surgical ACL repairs, Dr. Costa has worked with recreational and highly competitive athletes from AAA hockey players, provincial soccer players, football players, golfers, baseball players, elite dancers and synchro swimmers. He has extensive experience treating individuals injured in motor vehicle accidents and dealing with their insurance companies. He has gained valuable experience as an independent chiropractic assessor examining a variety of acute and chronic muscle and joint related disorders. He uses a range of manual therapies including acupuncture, joint mobilizations, adjustments, active release therapy (ART) and gentle myofascial techniques. He is able to utilize various physical modalities to complement your manual therapy treatment including: laser therapy, electro-acupuncture, IFC, TENS, microcurrent, muscle stimulation, ultrasound and iontophoresis. Dr. Costa will work individually with you to develop a specific set of progressive stretching and strengthening exercises to target your weak links and ensure long-lasting benefits to optimize your physical abilities and overall recovery.
Dr. Costa is in good standing with the Canadian Chiropractic Association, Ontario Chiropractic Association, Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, College of Chiropractors of Ontario and Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association. Dr. Costa is a fellow member of the Canadian College of Physical and Occupation Rehabilitation and has published articles in the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association.
